The Lunatech Society

 What is the Lunatech Society?

It's a new computer club I'm launching in partnership with Soho Community Hall in Handsworth.  Why a computer club and not a computer class?  Well there are far too many people digitally disadvantaged or excluded from Society.  I will leave links below where you can explore this in more details.

Often the solution is to enroll onto an IT/digital skills course at College and learn how to use computers.  Often these courses are funded and a condition of funding relies on successful completion, so you may enroll onto a course in September of one year and by the following July you would have completed an academic year and achieved a nationally recognised qualification.  It's tried, it's tested and it works.

All that being said there is a conversation to be had about a more relaxed, less formal drop in style club more coffee and computers.  Some people will know and associate me with Kevinoid's Cavern, Digital Dorcas and ITDojo so why the Lunatech Society?  Where did that name come from?  Whenever you start a statement with "God inspired me . . . " people think you're either trying to recruit them into a religious cult or that you have lost the plot.  I cannot apologies for that, nor would I.

The original Lunar Society originally called the Lunar Circle was formed in Handsworth, Birmingham in 1775.  One morning I was in bed half asleep and half awake and it just hit me like a fist of Ice cubes "Lunatech" a play on words combining Lunatic and Technology.  Ironically enough it was at a meeting I attended a couple of years ago at Soho House, the location where the original Lunar Society used to regularly meet where my relationship with Soho Community Hall was first formed.

There are non-accredited but high-quality bespoke courses you can access online and work through with support and assistance from a qualified teacher with over 40-years of IT user experience (That would be me).  There'll also be retro-inspired games to play.

Soho Community Hall

SCH has a focus on three main things . . . The Elderly . . . The Youth . . . and Families so there is something to be said for learning some digital skills in an environment where you can pop in with your children while you work through your course materials.
